A new P10 million tourist rest area is set to be established at Hiraya Manawari Nature Park in Barangay San Vicente, Tabaco City, Albay. This facility aims to enhance the convenience and overall experience for visitors to the province.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, which saw participation from local tourism officials and representatives from both provincial and municipal governments, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ma. Esperanza Christina Garcia-Frasco highlighted that this initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directives to address tourist needs.
Frasco noted that addressing the lack of public restrooms, a major concern for tourists, was a key driver behind the project's conception. “To ensure tourists’ needs are met and their safety and convenience are prioritized, we’ve initiated this project. To truly show the world our hospitality, we must also cater to our visitors' needs, and what better place for this rest area than Tabaco City, known for its warmth and charm,” she said.
The new rest area is expected to complement Tabaco City's existing tourism programs, potentially boosting visitor numbers. Frasco emphasized that the facility will align with the National Tourism Development Plan's sustainability goals. “The park exemplifies sustainability, aligning with our President’s vision to ensure the long-term viability of tourism destinations. The 2024 TRAs will be solar-powered to further support this vision,” she added.
The facility will feature an information desk, pasalubong center, lounge, restrooms, shower area, lactating room, and charging stations, consistent with all TRAs across the country. “We currently have 10 TRAs in operation, with 22 more planned. We aim to expand further in 2025 to improve our tourism infrastructure and service quality,” Frasco noted.
Tabaco City Mayor Cielo Krisel Lagman expressed gratitude for this new development, which will be built on a local government-owned lot and is projected to be completed within five months.
